Directions
Find north, then go round: N, E, S, W.
How to do it
Method
Find north, then go round: N, E, S, W
Arrow points right → north right, east down
Another way
Stand on the map
Face the arrow: your right is east
In full
The four main directions are north, east, south and west. Maps usually have north at the top, south at the bottom, west on the left and east on the right. But check the north arrow first: wherever it points is north; then go round clockwise: north, east, south, west. If the arrow points right, north is to the right, east is down, south is to the left and west is up. Or imagine standing in the middle of the map facing the arrow: ahead is north, your right hand is east, your left is west and behind you is south. The same answer.
