How to do it
Method
÷ 10: the point moves 1 place left; ÷ 100: 2
37 ÷ 100 = 0.37
Another way
As a fraction
37 ÷ 100 = 37100 = 0.37
In full
A whole number divided by 10 moves every digit down one place, so the decimal point moves one place left: 37 ÷ 10 = 3.7. Divided by 100, every digit moves down two places, so the point moves two places left: 37 ÷ 100 = 0.37. When there aren't enough digits, put 0s in front: 5 ÷ 100 = 0.05. 0s at the end of a decimal can go: 250 ÷ 100 = 2.50 = 2.5. Or think of a fraction: 37 ÷ 100 = 37100, that is 37 hundredths, 0.37. Check: 0.37 × 100 = 37.
