Halves and quarters
First check every part is the same size.
How to do it
Method
First check every part is the same size
4 equal parts: 1 shaded is a quarter, 2 shaded is a half
Another way
Lay them on top
Two parts that match exactly on top of each other are halves
In full
Sharing equally means every part is the same size. A shape cut into 2 equal parts: each is a half. Into 4 equal parts: each is a quarter, and 2 quarters make a half. If the parts aren't the same size, they aren't halves or quarters. Same size need not mean same shape: a square cut into 2 small squares and 2 strips is still 4 equal parts if each part is the same size. Or cut the parts out and lay them on top of each other to compare; to share things, hand them out one each in turn.
