Place-value chart
Th 3 | H 0 | T 4 | O 5 → 3045
In full
10 ones make 1 ten, 10 tens make 1 hundred, and 10 hundreds make 1 thousand. From the right, the places are ones, tens, hundreds and thousands: 3045 is 3 thousands, 0 hundreds, 4 tens and 5 ones, that is 3000 + 40 + 5. Read a number from its biggest place. When writing one, a place with nothing in it still needs a 0 to hold it: three thousand and five is written 3005. Or use a place-value chart: put each digit in its column, then read the columns in turn.
