How many oranges are there?
Show the hints (2)
💡Hint 1: Call the oranges 1 part. How many parts are the apples?
💡Hint 2: How many parts are there altogether?
Worked solution
Have a go first, then read the solution step by step.
1.The oranges are 1 part and the apples 2 parts: 3 parts, 12 in all.
2.1 part = 12 ÷ 3 = 4, so there are 4 oranges.
⚠️Common mistake: working out 12 ÷ 2 and forgetting that the oranges are a part too.
