Stage 4 · Division
÷2, ÷5, ÷10
÷5: double it, then ÷10.
How to do it
Method
÷5: double it, then ÷10
35 ÷ 5 = 70 ÷ 10 = 7
Another way
Think multiplication
5 × 7 = 35, so 35 ÷ 5 = 7
In full
Division isn't new — it's multiplication asked the other way: 35 ÷ 5 is 'five times what is 35?'. Shortcuts: a whole ten ÷10 loses its zero, ÷5 is double then ÷10 (35 ÷ 5 → 70 → 7), ÷2 is halving.
